CCMS Crowned Champions in Yzerman

It was CCMS who came out on top in the Championship game on Sunday versus NEMCO, 3-2.  The two teams tied during the playoffs, so to no one's surprise, they played tight throughout the game.

With no scoring in the 1st period, and most of the 2nd period, it took a powerplay opportunity for CCMS to get on the board first.  Pedro Garrett one-timed a pass from Erik Penhollow past NEMCO goalie Bobby Garrott, and CCMS kept a 1-0 lead through the end of two periods.

CCMS expanded their lead to 2-0 in the third with a goal from Penhollow, with Garrett and Mike Hagen picking up assists. But NEMCO was not about to lie down.  They tied the game 2-2 on goals by Paul Widen (unassisted) and Matt Hickey (assisted by Scott Lenhart).

Both Teams felt the intensity on the ice, and the crowd was hanging on every close play.  It was eventually CCMS defenseman Tom Bonnee who snuck up the left side boards and found a cross-ice  stretch pass from Penhollow, and then took it all the way to the net and scoring off the cross bar and Garrott's back for the Championship winning goal.

Patrick Stewart was stellar in net for CCMS and earned his 2nd league championship.
